Instrumentaly ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Instrumentaly mobile application (the "App"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our App.

Information Collection

Instrumentaly is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect any personal information.

What We DON'T Collect

• No names, email addresses, or contact information
• No practice statistics or usage data sent to our servers
• No location data
• No device identifiers
• No analytics or tracking cookies

Local Data Storage

All app data is stored locally on your device using:

• SharedPreferences (Android) or UserDefaults (iOS) for app settings
• Your practice preferences, settings, and statistics never leave your device

This data includes:

• Practice mode (notes or chords)
• Keyboard display settings
• Custom filters (key selection, inversions, etc.)
• Practice statistics (if you have Premium)
• Premium purchase status

You can delete this data at any time by:

• Uninstalling the app
• Clearing app data (Android Settings → Apps → Instrumentaly → Clear Data)
• Deleting the app (iOS Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Instrumentaly → Delete App)

Third-Party Services

Instrumentaly uses the following third-party services, which may collect data according to their own privacy policies:

1. Google Play In-App Billing / Apple App Store In-App Purchase

If you purchase Premium, the transaction is processed by:

• Google Play Billing (Android)
• Apple App Store (iOS)

• What they collect: Payment information (handled by Google/Apple, not us)
• What we store: A purchase receipt token (stored locally to verify your Premium status)
• We do NOT store: Your payment details, credit card info, or billing address

2. Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics) - Optional

Some versions of the app may use:

• Firebase Analytics: To understand feature usage (aggregated, anonymous data)
• Firebase Crashlytics: To detect and fix app crashes

Opt-out: You can disable analytics in app settings (if available), or by clearing app data.

Current Status: As of Feb 2026, Firebase is included but analytics are minimal. We prioritize your privacy.

Microphone Permission (Premium Feature)

If you enable Microphone-based Pitch Detection (Premium feature), the app will:

• Request microphone permission (required by iOS and Android)
• Use your microphone to detect the pitch of notes you play
• Process audio locally on your device (no audio is sent to servers)
• NOT record, store, or share any audio

You can revoke microphone permission at any time in your device settings.

Children's Privacy

Instrumentaly is suitable for all ages, including children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children or adults. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

Data Security

Since we don't collect or transmit personal data, there is minimal risk. However:

• All local data is protected by your device's security (encryption, passcode, etc.)
• Premium purchase tokens are stored securely to prevent unauthorized access

Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal data, there's no data to request, modify, or delete from our servers.

However, you can:

• Delete local data: Uninstall the app or clear app data
• Revoke permissions: Disable microphone access in device settings

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.

We will notify you of significant changes via:

• In-app notification
• App store update notes
